Introduction

Although in terms of active numbers C Company is probably the smallest element of the Battalion, we make a significant contribution to the unit as a whole. We have centres in Wicklow Town, Arklow and Tinahely, but our members come from a wide variety of backgrounds and parts of County Wicklow.

C Company was originally formed by the amalgamation of A & C Companies of 21 Infantry Battalion (FCA) with centres in Wicklow and Bray, but 2006 saw the reopening of centres in Arklow and Tinahely, while the Bray centre became part of HQ Company.

In the past relatively a large number of personnel from C Company have gone onto be successful in their applications to the join the PDF, Gardai and other forces. Arguably the reason behind this maybe the commitment and loyalty to each other unique to the family atmosphere within C Company, in addition to the training and experiences they have received in their time with us.

Recent Activities

C Company has been very busy since the reorganisation of the RDF in October 2005. Personnel have completed a wide variety of activities, in addition to every day training described else where:

  • GPMG Course (x2)
  • GPMG (SF) Course
  • 84mm Anti-Tank Gun Course
  • 60mm Mortar Course
  • SINCGARS Radio Operators' Course
  • Radiological Monitoring Course
  • 1916 Commemoration - Easter Parade
  • Eastern Brigade (Regional) RDF Shooting Competitions
  • All Army (National) RDF Shooting Competition
  • Eastern Brigade RDF Skills Assessment
  • Radiological Monitoring Exercises (x2)
  • Tactical training in support to PDF
  • Presentations to local schools

The Future

The next 12 months will be an exciting time in C Company due to the new members we have recruited and the training they will receive, while our current part-time soldiers continue in their training.

Our current objective is to have a full recruit platoon on camp next summer, so far in a relatively short time good progress has been made but more people are required to fill up the last number of places. If you (or your friends/family) are interesting in joining C Company please contact the unit urgently. If you are turning 17 in the next couple of months we can start the process and you
will not miss out.

2007 Update

C Company is currently in the process of attesting our recruit platoon for 2007 and will very soon begin training.

C Company's objectives for the coming year (2007) include:

  • The attestation & training of a recruit platoon.
  • Orienteering (to get individuals/team to the All Army Competition)
  • Send personnel on the Potential NCOs Course.
